Some small towns that are fun to visit
Wrightwood, CA (Population ~ 4,500)
Wrightwood is a small town along the stretch of Angeles Crest Highway. I’ve through it many of times, but never stopped. It’s near Mountain High and has all the makings of a quaint town. Mom and pop shops, antique stores, a couple of rag tag saloons, and some of the nicest people you’ll meet. The cabin I rented was a joined cabin for fairly inexpensive and close to the road. No air conditioning, but for the weather it wasn’t needed. Also it should be known that most of the homes have septic tanks, so no flushing toilet paper down the toilet. On the left is the cabin I stayed in, and the right is the view from the front door.
The room was a but rustic and had a minimalist appearance, and probably hasn’t been updated since the ’90s. It’s all that was needed though for a short trip. There was however a locked door, left picture. The owner wouldn’t say what it was, and only that it was locked. I asked a few more times, but I think my question was lost in translation. The middle picture is the darkest corner of the room with a futon, and I did not want to touch that. And on the right, at least the bed had memory foam, so I’ll give them that. It was quite comfortable.
In town there was a museum where the upstairs was the original firehouse from the 1930s. It was last updated in the ’80s when another more modern one was built further up teh street. It still has the living quarters from back then. And the musk.
On the left is the main street, and yes, it fits all in the one photo. At the end was a bar and grill with its roast beef sandwich that locals and visitors like. Wrightwood Brewhouse.
The Mountain High ski slopes without the snow look like another hiking trail. I like being able to see the equipment without the snow covering it. Best of all, I never realized there was an observatory up here.
My traveling buddy, Macasaurus, ended the hike up to the resort with a magnificent photo shoot in all his glory. The colors lit up the sky with some very nice oranges and blues. It was a bit hazy in the distance but made for a nice sunset.
